Statement of Purpose

As a special educator and mathematics teacher, I have worked to level the playing field for all students, across all curriculum areas, in order that they find academic success while developing socially and emotionally. Utilizing differentiated instruction based on individual student needs, I am looking to instill a love for mathematics in those who experience the greatest fears and anxieties in the subject.

Special Education / Mathematics Teacher
August 2012 - Present

  • Assess students’ skills using a variety of academic tests including the WIAT, GORT, GSRT, TOWL, and KeyMath.
  • Write evaluation reports based on academic testing results and present results at initial and re­evaluation meetings.
  • Chair annual Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings.
  • Develop IEPs for each student and update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals.
  • Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress.
  • Modify curriculum and provide accommodations for students on IEPs.
  • Evaluate the academic and social growth of students.
  • Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
  • Supervise and mentor paraprofessionals who work with students with disabilities.
  • Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities.
  • Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one­on­one in an academic/transition support class.
  • Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and after graduation.
  • Plan, develop and execute lessons that reflect course curriculums and the state’s core educational standards.
  • Evaluate student progress and the ability to meet courses standards in knowledge and skills.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior by planning and developing engaging lesson plans.
  • Employ a variety of methodologies in teaching and instructing pupils, including demonstrations, discussions, and lectures.
  • Utilize educational equipment, such as materials, books, manipulatives, and other learning aids.
  • Teach or Co­teach a variety of courses including English, Physics, Biology, Engineering, History, Geometry, Algebra 1, Intermediate Algebra, Connected Math 2 & 3.
  • Teach seventh and eighth grade Response to Intervention (RtI) mathematics classes.
